Residences of Lake Shore Drive

This 26-story condominium at 840 North Lake Shore Drive that overlooks Lake Michigan mimics the stylish boulevard architecture of Paris. The predominant exterior material features rich architectural precast cladding which emulates natural French limestone and appears seamless in integration with the building's natural stone base. Relief work in the precast exterior features can be seen in the deep precast window returns and elegant precast cornices. The rotunda on the building’s southeast edge features radius precast spandrel panels. Lucien Lagrange selected architectural precast concrete as the predominant façade element of the exterior because cladding a tower of this size in natural stone would have been cost-prohibitive.

Constructed in 2004, Residences of Lake Shore Drive is still in the top ten of the most expensive residential buildings in Chicago, showcasing the resilient nature of our façade systems.

GATE also produced the façades for two neighboring residential buildings, The Belvedere, a 16-story brick inlay precast tower, and The Pearson, a 35-story tower featuring smooth acid-etched finish panels on the lower four stories above the granite base.
