Virgin Hotels New Orleans

Virgin Hotels in downtown New Orleans is a five-star, 14-story high-rise that features GateLite, a lightweight unitized system with embedded brick and insulation for a complete thermal, vapor and air barrier. GateLite offered building solutions that met Buccini/Pollin Group’s need for a prefabricated system and passed the CBD Historic District Landmarks Commission’s review. Additionally, GateLite offered speed of installation which allowed for an accelerated construction schedule.

All aspects of the façade system were detailed within the Revit model, including brick coursing, vents, window details, reinforcing, and connection hardware.

In an effort to match the surrounding historic masonry warehouse-style architecture in the Central Business District, the architectural team of CallisonRTKL & Mathes Brierre Architects selected a brick blend to be embedded in the face of the architectural precast concrete panels. The brick and other design choices allowed the 200-room boutique hotel to blend well within its existing neighborhood while still being a new structure within the New Orleans Warehouse District.
