Centralia High School

Centralia High School

Centralia High School in Centralia, IL is distinctive because the architect realized in the early stages of the project that the school board’s desire to use traditional building materials such as brick and stone cladding could not be accomplished within the budget without sacrificing the scope. The decision to utilize GATE’s architectural precast high-performance wall system was the solution to maintaining the design goals and the budget.

"When you think of concrete, the last thing you think of is flexibility yet this system is extremely flexible. We found this product to give the most freedom to design a building that would truly reflect the community it was surrounded by."

The superior thermal qualities of the sandwich panel system offer an unbroken thermal insulation envelope. Incorporating thin brick into the face of the precast offers speed of construction and drastically reduces the amount of brick required. Durable precast wall panels offer interior finish options and eliminate the need for studs and sheetrock. Also, integrating electrical systems into the panels during fabrication eliminated unsightly surface-mounted materials.

“Architectural precast systems are a perfect choice for education facilities and we would recommend that any design professional consider this system for their clients.”
