500 Brickell

500 Brickell

Standing at 426 feet tall, 500 Brickell is a 42-story luxury high-rise condominium structure with 633 residential units, 2 levels of retail space and 10 levels of parking spaces. The high-rise is divided into twin towers about a quarter of the way up the design. The towers are separated by a large, open breezeway that is one of the largest breezeways in the world, creating an outdoor space that is over 30 stories tall. At the top of the breezeway is an illuminated 75’ diameter oculus made of lightweight precast concrete cladding that connects the towers. Connecting the towers from below the breezeway, the parking garage is encased with precast concrete panels with circular perforations that add visual interest to the entire structure and add ventilation throughout the parking area. The circles are lined with painted metal grating that provides kaleidoscopic color and helps add contrast to an otherwise white exterior. Because the parking garage serves as the base of the twin towers and can be seen from all sides, the architect opted to create a structure that not only serves as the foundation of the towers and provides an essential space but also one that serves as a work of art with its creative yet functional design.
