The Hilton BNA Nashville Airport Terminal Hotel is the first and only hotel onsite at Nashville International Airport. The 14-story hotel consists of 298 rooms as well as amenities that include over 23,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces and, a rooftop pool and bar with expansive lounge areas. The hotel site is constrained between two existing parking garages on either side and, the airport terminal in the front with a heavily traveled airport loop at the front and back of the property. The hotel’s motor lobby is at street level; however, the hotel’s formal entrance sits on level 5 of a cast-in-place concrete parking garage.
The hotel’s proximity to the airport meant it was necessary to minimize noise levels. As such, architectural precast concrete panels were used for the majority of the hotel’s exterior façade because of their innate acoustical and blast-resistant strength characteristics. Additionally, structurally glazed aluminum fixed windows were integrated into the façade system. The windows are double laminated insulated glass and help further reduce noise. This integration allowed for an accelerated installation and provided a weather-tight envelope which allowed an accelerated interior fit-out process. The integration also reduced overall costs in the construction process because of less construction waste, site disturbance such as storage, and less time and labor required on site. Approximately 60 days were shaved off of the construction schedule by using pre-glazed, window punch precast panels. For added visual interest, some window-punched precast panels were given a dynamic facet feature that tapers out over a foot but was 5” at the thinnest part.
To assist with sustainability, titanium dioxide, a self-cleaning agent, was added to the concrete mix. Because the hotel's exterior is exposed to higher levels and frequencies of pollutants from surrounding air traffic, the addition of titanium dioxide will help lower overall maintenance on the precast exterior.
