This one-story, 29,000-square-foot temple is characterized by a central spire that gives the impression of a taller structure. The owner and designer chose precast concrete at the beginning of the project to meet many of their construction and design goals.
As the third temple of this kind in Florida, the design follows a temple template that requires the highest construction standards. In order to ensure the best design using precast concrete, GATE provided design assistance early in the design phase. Through early involvement in the design phase, GATE’s engineering team created a continuous feedback loop with the project design team. This coordination was key in getting the ornate temple into production and allowed the precast and supporting structure to converge with virtually zero remediation.
The stone-like exterior features four-sided columns, large cornices, intricate lettering, and floral details. The project is a prime example of precast concrete’s ability to emulate any architectural style. A combination of computer-generated molds and hand-crafted molds and formliners were used to create the temple’s intricate panels. The ivory-colored exterior is consistent in color and texture, and exceptionally sharp lines were achieved with the glass-blast finish. Using precast rather than other materials like stone allowed for a faster construction schedule. The precast façade provides a long-lasting building exterior that will maintain its aesthetics and withstand Florida’s tropical climate and other environmental influences for many years.
