Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center

Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center

The Irma and Norman Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, FL, is notably complex, pushing the boundaries of precast design, production, and installation. The façade, generated by an algorithm, features precast concrete spandrels that create a fluid wave-like design, engulfing the entire structure. This design required a custom-fabricated window system, faceted to the tops and bottoms of the precast concrete spandrels, allowing natural light to permeate the facility. The project's complexity is further highlighted by the absence of right angles in the panels, which are curved, compound, tilted, and skewed. The approval process for these panels differed significantly from traditional methods, necessitating close coordination with Brasfield & Gorrie and CannonDesign, relying exclusively on a model of high precision. Located overlooking Biscayne Bay, the precast concrete façade provides a resilient structure to withstand extreme weather occurrences.

In conjunction with Columbia University in New York, the center promises to deliver unparalleled access to physicians, support services, trials and research, and so much more. Designed to elicit calmness, promote healing, and inspire, the center is expected to open in early 2026.
